My Favorite Facebook Posts

Today I made what are probably my two favorite Facebook posts on KANIP to date. It takes me forever and a day to write a blog post, so for those of you who may miss it there, I'll just share it here now, rather than wait.

HB 1706 passed out of committee!!! WOOOHOOOO!!!

There is a long road ahead, but this is fantastic news! About Me

I'm Krisdee Donmoyer. I'm a feminist stay-at-home mother of three sons - Magoo (8.5), Sweet Pea (4.5), and Bellybean (1.5). I'm married to Adam, a talented musician, marketing consultant/copywriter, and lactivist.

After breastfeeding for a combined six years, I had my first negative nursing in public experience, and it made a staunch advocate of me - and, by chance, a blogger, as well. For the past year-plus I've spent more time on advocacy than cooking, cleaning, or doing laundry, so it's not unusual to eat frozen pizza, trip over toys, or run out of clean underwear in our house. But thankfully Adam also cooks, so Bellybean isn't the only one getting nutritious meals.

I'm the outreach coordinator for Central Texas Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition, who recently surprised me with a 2013 Breastfeeding Hero Award for advocating for mother- and baby-friendly breastfeeding policies in two central Texas school districts and for my efforts at the Texas Legislature. (Adam said I must toot my horn, so there - toot, toot!) I'm fascinated by gender stereotyping, feminism, and body image, on their own and as they relate to breastfeeding. I'm crunchy, I love sci-fi, and though diplomatic language is the cornerstone of my advocacy, in real life I cuss like Debra Morgan.

A lot of what I've written about to date has been specific to Austin and to Texas, but to my mind, breastfeeding is very much a think global, act local issue. (In fact the name of this blog derives from our city's unofficial motto, "Keep Austin Weird," which is meant to promote support of local businesses.) I believe that working with my school district to change a policy can affect other schools, that working on Texas state law can change law in other states. So please feel free to read and like me on fb even if you're not a local!

I'm not a consistent blogger but I spend about as much time on Facebook as cats spend sleeping. For a year it was just me and Adam, but thankfully now my friends Mandi Chase Wolfe, Amber Rogers, and Alexandra Watt Thompson help share breastfeeding information and stories there.

I am struggling to take better care of myself (read eat healthier and exercise), to figure out the homemaker half of this stay-at-home mom thing, and to find balance. Most of all, I am struggling to be a better mom.
